St Bonaventure’s celebrates 80th birthday of headmistress

HYDERABAD: Tributes were paid to noted academician Angela deSouza at a programme held on the Hyderabad campus of St Bonaventure’s High School in connection with her 80th birthday (falling on Oct 18) the other day.

The programme was organised by the school’s administration in recognition of her meritorious services to the cause of education and her contribution to the observance of high standards at the school.

Archbishop of Karachi Joseph Coutts and Bishop of Hyderabad Samson Shukardin performed religious services at St Francis Xavier Cathedral while a Thanksgiving Eucharistic Service was held to celebrate the birthday.

Speaking at the programme, Bertram deSouza, the principal of the Hyderabad and Qasimabad campuses who has also been teaching English at the school since 1958, and others shed light on the life and services of Karachi-born Angela deSouza, who started teaching English at the school in 1958 and continued with the task till date. They noted that she also successfully headed the institution since 1986.

Bertram deSouza told the audience that the school produced many top professionals, politicians, doctors, engineers and academicians including Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah.

Angela deSouza said: “My advice to all of them is that wherever you are and whatever you are doing, keep the school flag flying high and maintain the great morals of truth, justice and honesty that you have learnt at the school.”
