LAHORE: National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq said on Monday that democracy faced no threat.

Talking to reporters here, he welcomed the statement of the army spokesman on democracy. “We welcome the army spokesman’s statement that democracy has no threat,” he said.

Sadiq said there should be a grand dialogue among the institutions as proposed by the Senate Chairman Raza Rabbani.

To a question about slow work of development in his constituency, the speaker said he had got done a number of development projects in NA-122.

Meanwhile, Maryam Nawaz, daughter of ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif, visited Mozang (NA-120) and met with party workers.

She expressed her gratitude to them for their work that helped her mother Begum Kulsoom win the by-poll last month. She asked them to shun their differences and work for the party in the testing time.

She decided to meet the workers in NA-120 on reports that both PML-N MPAs received complaints from some old workers that Maryam had not visited the constituency to thank them after winning the by-poll.

Maryam who was supposed to leave for London on Saturday last to see her ailing mother has now decided stay here till Oct 19 to face indictment in three graft cases in the accountability court in Islamabad.
