Sharp-edged cutter seized from prisoner

RAWALPINDI: After a sharp-edged cutter and currency notes were recovered from an under-trial prisoner on his return to the Central Jail Adiala from the district courts in Islamabad, the jail authorities wrote to the capital police to initiate action against the officials who were guarding him.

“The cutter could easily be used as a weapon not only outside the jail and during case proceeding but also inside the jail,” the jail superintendent stated in his letter to the SSP Islamabad.

The three under-trial prisoners - Noman Yaqoob alias Nomi, Hashim Khan and Arshad Mehmood - were handed over to the police guards of Islamabad at about 8:20am for their production before Addition Sessions Judge Islamabad Syed Faizan Haider in the murder case of Barrister Malik Fahad.

The police guards were informed that the under-trial prisoners were involved in the high-profile murder case and their escape cannot be ruled out.

The incharge of the police guards also signed an undertaking that he had received the prisoners after a thorough search and would ensure that they would not have access to any contraband articles.

The prisoners were brought back to the jail at 12:40pm and during their body search at the main gate Rs3,200 and the sharp-edged cutter were recovered from Noman Yaqoob.
