‘Govt to fall in case of Imran’s arrest’

LAHORE: The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) on Thursday took exception to arrest warrants for Imran Khan issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) ‘even after seeking unconditional apology and appearance of his counsel before the commission’.

It said the incumbent puppet government would fall in case of Imran’s arrest.

Meanwhile, Opposition Leader in Punjab Assembly Mian Mahmoodur Rasheed has called a PTI parliamentary party meeting on Monday to discuss post-arrest warrants situation and the decision whether to attend the assembly session or not.

Speaking to the media, Mr Rasheed said the ECP would be required to prove its impartiality to save its credibility.

Condemning the ECP for issuing warrants, Mr Rasheed said the people would take to the roads against the ECP’s action.

“The PTI cannot be blackmailed with these tactics and it will continue pursuing the cases against the Sharif family until their conviction,” he asserted.

He said Ayesha Gulalai’s assembly membership should have been denotified as per constitution and law of the land but it was being delayed. Instead, he added, warrants had been issued for Imran Khan.

Answering a question, he said, the state institutions needed to stay impartial to protect their sanctity and acceptance among the masses.
