Money Market: Bank borrowing falls by 1.22pc

According to the weekly statement of position of all scheduled banks for the week ended September 22, deposits and other accounts of all scheduled banks stood at Rs11,671.125bn after a 0.20pc increase over the preceding week’s figure of Rs11,647.739bn. Compared with last year’s corresponding figure of Rs10,219.084bn, the current week’s figure was higher by 14.20pc.

Deposits and other accounts of all commercial banks stood at Rs11,598.109bn against preceding week’s deposits of Rs11,570.858bn, showing a rise of 0.23pc. Deposits and other accounts of specialised banks stood at Rs73.016bn, lower by 5.03pc against previous week’s figure of Rs76.882bn.

Total assets of all scheduled banks stood at Rs16,513.192bn, higher by 0.06pc over preceding week’s figure of Rs16,502.600bn. Current week’s figure is higher by 17.00pc compared to last year’s corresponding figure of Rs14,114.497bn.

Bank deposits increase by 0.20pc over the preceding week

Total assets of all commercial banks stood at Rs16,256.809bn, higher by 0.07pc over previous week’s figure of Rs16,244.892bn, while total assets of specialised banks at Rs256.383bn, were lower 0.51pc over the previous week’s Rs257.708bn.

Gross advances of all scheduled banks stood at Rs6,048.241bn, lower by 0.06pc over the preceding week’s figure of 6,051.872bn. Compared with last year’s corresponding figure of Rs5,046.191bn, current week’s figure is higher by 19.85pc.

Advances by all commercial banks decreased to Rs5,876.637bn from previous week’s Rs5,880.338bn indicating a fall of 0.06pc, whereas advances of specialised banks stood at Rs171.604bn against previous week’s 171.534bn.

Borrowings by all scheduled banks decreased in the week under review. It fell by 1.22pc to Rs2,697.557bn against previous week’s Rs2,730.787bn. Compared to last year’s corresponding figure of Rs1,885.724bn, current week’s figure is higher by 43.05pc.

Borrowings by commercial banks in the week at Rs2,606.977bn were lower by 1.31pc against previous week’s Rs2,641.595bn. Borrowings by specialized banks stood at Rs90.580bn against the previous week’s Rs89.191bn.
