Nawaz Sharif may fly to London today as wife suffers relapse

LAHORE: Ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif is likely to leave for London on Thursday (today).

“Mian Sahib has planned to leave for London on Thursday to see his ailing wife Begum Kulsoom whose condition has deteriorated,” a PML-N leader told Dawn.

He said Mr Sharif made a telephone call to London to inquire about her health.

“He will return by Oct 2 to face trial in the accountability court in Islamabad,” he said.

Media reports said Begum Kulsoom Nawaz was readmitted to hospital on Tuesday evening after her condition deteriorated.

Doctors were trying to stabilise her condition, according to Maryam Nawaz, who took to Twitter, requesting for prayers for her mother’s recovery.

“Ami was taken and admitted to the hospital again late last night. Drs [doctors] are trying to stabilise her condition. Request for prayers. Allahu Shafi,” Ms Maryam tweeted from her official and verified Twitter account (@MaryamNSharif).

The wife of ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif was diagnosed with early-stage lymphoma last month and has been in London since, along with daughter Maryam and sons Hussain and Hassan.

Begum Kulsoom, who recently won the NA-120 by-poll, was discharged from hospital last week after her third surgery, which was also the most comprehensive operation conducted in her treatment process yet.

Following her release from hospital on Sept 22, Ms Maryam tweeted: “Just brought Ami home. She is Alhamdolillah recovering well after her 3rd surgery. Jazak’Allah for your valuable prayers.”
