Consumer court orders rickshaw company to refund price

LAHORE: A consumer court on Monday ordered a private engineering company to return the price of an auto-rickshaw to a citizen who had sued the company for selling a defective four-stroke rickshaw to him.

Petitioner Muhammad Khadim of Sanda had filed the petition, stating he purchased an auto-rickshaw from Meezan Metoline Engineering Company and paid Rs167,000 to its sales executive.

He pleaded that he was given an invoice of Rs122,380 for purchasing the rickshaw with a big difference of receiving amount. He said he had found several faults in the rickshaw, including defective temperature meter, faulty steering and substandard engine.

Khadim sought refund of the rickshaw price Rs167,000 and Rs500,000 for causing him mental torture.

Judge Mahar Tahir Nawaz Khan ordered the company to take back the faulty rickshaw and refund its cost, amounting Rs167,000, with Rs30,000 as litigation charges to the petitioner.
