Global powers’ role sought for peace in region

QUETTA: Minister for Ports and Shipping Mir Hasil Khan Bizenjo urged all political parties to uphold supremacy of the law and Constitution in their politics, strengthen democracy and promote a political culture in order to effectively deal with internal and external threats.

Speaking at a meeting of the National Party’s central committee here on Monday, the minister said the country had been beset with the problem of terrorism for quite some time and that had brought it a bad name. He said that thousands of civilians and security personnel had sacrificed their lives in the fight against terrorism.

Mr Bizenjo, the president of National Party, was joined by senior members of the central committee who spoke at length on the current situation and various issues pertaining to Balochistan.

Addressing party leaders, Mr Bizenjo said several neighbouring countries were facing similar threats of terrorism, and suggested that global powers play a positive role in restoring peace to the region. The minister said that terrorism had badly affected Pakistan’s economy and created a situation of uncertainty.

The National Party leader urged political parties to enter dialogue in order to evolve a joint strategy to resolve the issues and problems faced by people and the country.
