Gilani urges politicians to show ‘political maturity’

MULTAN: Former prime minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has said the politicians should act in a responsible manner to bring the masses out of the crisis they are facing.

Talking to the media here on Wednesday, Mr Gilani said Imran Khan should avoid using objectionable language in his speeches.

“Responsibility should be shown in politics. The politicians should show maturity to end the crisis, the masses are facing,” he said.

Claiming the Pakistan Peoples Party would form next government, he said: “The PPP will not only clean sweep in south Punjab but in the entire country”.

To a question about return of Nawaz Sharif and his family members from London, he said that he could not predict anything in the regard, adding: “It will be more appropriate to ask it from Sharif family”.

He said although the PPP leaders were the victims of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), they still respected the institutions.

“We are rather NAB-zada (victims of NAB) not NAB-zaaday (sons of NAB),” he quipped.

Mr Gilani said the Sharif family too should respect the institutions.

He said a committee had been constituted by the party to review the results of NA-120 by-elections.

He hoped the PPP’s public meeting in Sahiwal, to be addressed by Bilawal Bhutto, would be successful.

SECURITY REVIEWED: Corps Commander Lt Gen Sarfraz Sattar reviewed the security arrangements made by the law-enforcement agencies for Muharram at a meeting held here on Wednesday at the Corps Headquarters.

He pledged full support to the civil administration by the Pakistan Army, adding the troops would provide it quick backup.

He emphasized the need for continued liaison among various departments for implementation of Muharram security plan in an integrated manner.

The meeting was attended by the officers of army, law-enforcement agencies and civil administration, including commissioners and regional police officers of Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan and Sahiwal divisions.

The representatives of different departments briefed the meeting’s participants on the arrangements made for Muharram.
