Hutchison Ports sets vessel handling record

KARACHI: Hutchison Ports Pakistan, the country’s first deep-water container terminal, sets national vessel handling record for third time this year by handling 1,953 moves in just 11 hours on the 8,562TEU vessel Hyundai Global.

The terminal operator broke its own previous record of 3,191 moves in just over 23 hours, achieved on 8,600TEU vessel Hyundai Splendour. In less than five months, since starting test operations on Dec 9, 2016.

During the vessel’s stay at the facility, the terminal achieved a vessel operating rate (VOR) of 181.15 container moves per hour (previous record was 140.18) and a gross crane rate (GCR) of 31.05. During the call, a total of 2,503TEUs were handled, said a press release.

Telenor Bank gets new CEO

KARACHI: Shahid Mustafa has been appointed president and CEO of Telenor Microfinance Bank (formerly Tameer Microfinance Bank), a press release said on Wednesday.

Mr Mustafa replaced Ali Riaz Chaudhry who served at the helm of the institution May 2016 onwards.

NBP, others receive annual ADB awards

ISLAMABAD: National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) received on Wednesday the ‘Issuing Bank Trade Deal of the Year’ award by Asian Development Bank.

Under ADB’s annual Trade Finance Programme (TFP), Habib Metropolitan Bank received the ‘Best SME Deal’ award.

ADB recognised 18 leading partner banks from 17 countries in the third annual TFP.

Bank Al Habib was declared the “Leading Partner Bank”. “Without our partner banks, ADB’s TFP would not close over $3 billion a year in trade finance market gaps,” said Steven Beck, head of trade finance at ADB.
