Traffic plan for Defence Day

RAWALPINDI: The traffic police have made a traffic plan for Sept 6 to keep all public, commercial and private vehicles moving smoothly on the eve of Defence Day.

Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Yousuf Shahid, who will be looking after the alternative traffic arrangements, said The Mall, T&T chowk to Shalimar chowk, Tameezuddin Road to PC Hotel, GHQ Gate # 3 to 22# Chungi and Masood Akhtar Kiani Road would remain closed from 2pm until the Defense Day ceremony comes to a close.

The CTO said as many as 396 traffic wardens, 24 junior wardens, 18 inspectors and 7 DSPs would be deployed on the alternative routes to maintain traffic. He said the traffic moving for Sadar from Shalimar Chowk will be diverted to the Bank Road and would reach the Mall Road via CMH Chowk.

The traffic from CMH Chowk to Katchery will be diverted towards Railway Road, Kamran Market, Mareer Chowk to reach Katchery Chowk. No traffic will be allowed to Transit Camp and on Roomi Road and from Military Accounts office to the Railway Road during the ceremony.

He said the traffic from Mareer Chowk to TM Chowk would be diverted to Saifullah Lodhi Road and no vehicle will be allowed from Lal Kurti and Indus Road to the Tameezuddin Road.

However, cars and motorbikes from Convent School to Dhehri Hassanabad will be allowed via Tameezuddin Road and CMH family wards, he added.

The CTO said no vehicle would be allowed to move towards Shalimar Chowk from the Bank Road turn.

In case of any road mishap, there will be recovery vehicle and fork lifters will be on a stand-by on roads to ensure smooth flow of traffic and discourage wrong parking.
