Thar rejoices, Badin panics as spell of heavy rains hits Sindh

Nearly all areas of Thar and Badin, Sindh's desert districts, received moderate to heavy rains on Wednesday.

Locals expressed their joy at receiving the showers, saying that they would benefit traditional crops and create fodder for the livestock.

Mithi, Diplo, Islamkot, Chhachhro, Kaloi, Dahli, Chelhar, Khensar, Vijoto, Dando Dandhal received intermittent rains, while reports from Nagarparkar said that dormant streams have begun to flow once again after the rains.

Heavy rains were also reported from areas in the Umerkot, Mirpurkhas and Sanghar districts.

In Badin, a bout of heavy started Wednesday afternoon, creating problems for people living in Tando Bago, Talhar, Khoski, Pangrio, Malkani Sharif, Matli, Tando Ghulam Ali, Shadi Large, Golarchi, Nindo Shahar, Kadhan, Kario Ghanwar, Khorwah and other areas.

Low-lying areas were inundated by the rainwater and power remained suspended in the areas for many hours, locals reported.

Telecommunication services, including internet connections, were also shaky due to rains, while several crops — including ready-for-harvest rice — also sustained sustained significant losses.
