KARACHI: The Sindh government, in exercise of powers conferred on it by Section 144(6) of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), on Tuesday imposed a ban on establishing of cattle markets within the local limits or jurisdiction of the Karachi Division except at designated places with immediate effect until Sept 4, said an official handout issued here.

It said the designated places where cattle markets could be established are Superhighway, Malir 15 Asoo Goth, Cattle Mandi Landhi, Rice Godown, Landhi Near Baber Market, Hamdard University near Manghopir, Mowach Goth Baldia Town, Cattle Mandi permitted by the station commander Karachi in the limits of the Clifton Cantonment Board and Cattle Mandi permitted by the president of the Karachi Cantonment Board in the limits of the Karachi Cantonment Board.

Meanwhile, the Sindh government, exercising the same CrPC powers, imposed a complete ban on sowing of sugarcane and banana, and plying of heavy transport on and inside the FP Bund across Khairpur district for 60 days with immediate effect.

The government has authorised the SHOs of police stations concerned to register complaints under Section 188 of the PPC in writing against violators of the bans.

Eid fares

The provincial transport and mass transit ministry has asked the transporters to follow government’s fares during Eidul Azha as their inflated fares are highly unjustified and are restricting poor people from travelling to their loved ones during Eid.

An order issued by the ministry said that since Eid was approaching fast, people wanted to travel to their parents and other relatives to celebrate the festival.

“But there is a trend during this period that transporters raise fares on their own and cause extra burden [to] the travellers,” said the official order.

Officials in the ministry said it had directed all officers concerned to ask intercity and intra-city transporters and route operators to implement the fares decided by the government for Eid.

“We have asked our officials to take action against the violators as per rules,” said a senior official in the transport ministry.
