Judgement on Majeed Achakzai’s bail application reserved

QUETTA: Justice Ejaz Swati of the Balochistan High Court on Monday reserved the judgement on the bail application of Balochistan Assembly member Majeed Khan Achakzai in a hit-and-run case.

Mr Achakzai was arrested after his vehicle allegedly ran over a traffic warden in Quetta in June.

The bail application was submitted by Mr Achakzai’s counsel Nasibullah Tareen.

In the application, Mr Tareen said his client was nominated in an accident case which should be registered under Section 319/320 (punishment for manslaughter). But, he added, the case was registered under Section 322 (punishment for murder) and under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

He said as chairman of the public accounts committee of the provincial assembly Mr Achakzai was about to unveil corruption cases against many influential people before his arrest. He asserted that his client’s move against these influential people had made his case complicated. He said Mr Achakzai held a driving licence but its tax had not been paid.

Prosecutor General of Balochistan Ameer Zaman Jogezai told the court that two eyewitnesses had recorded their statements that Mr Achakzai was present at the site of the accident.
