Punjab University, medical varsity to exchange data

LAHORE: The Punjab University and the Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Medical University (SZABMU) signed on Saturday a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to share human and technical resources in research and development.

Under the MoU, the PU’s Centre of Excellence in Molecular Biology (CEMB) and SZABMU would exchange and disseminate scientific data, skills and techniques and would utilise advanced research facilities and clinical materials in their laboratories in cooperative projects of research.

Both parties will jointly undertake training programmes to generate cadre of specifically trained manpower through training courses, symposium and seminars. According to the MoU, the CEMB would help the SZABMU establish recombinant DNA, regenerative medicine and neonatal screening, laboratory and protein purification infrastructure for the applications of stem cell therapy and production of pharmaceutical proteins while the SZABMU would provide laboratory space on one of its campuses.
