THE national internship programme is a good initiative to support and develop skill in fresh graduates.

Nevertheless, a per month stipend of Rs12,000 is a meagre amount. The minimum salary of an unskilled worker is Rs15,000 but it seems an educated engineer, economist or doctor does not deserve a salary equal to an unskilled worker.

The government should raise salaries of interns from Rs12,000 to at least Rs15,000.
