Civic workers seek dues of last year’s Eid work

KARACHI: The civic agency workers, pointing out non-payment of their dues, have warned that if the honorarium/wages for the work done during Eidul Azha last year were not paid immediately, they would not only stage a demonstration on Wednesday, but would also not work during the next Eid.

Briefing media persons, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation Sajjan (CBA) union chief Zulfiqar Shah on Saturday said that though the workers — belonging to the machine pool, malaria control unit, fumigation services, etc — had worked during the Eidul Azha last year, they had not been paid the honorarium till now.

He said that to push for the acceptance of their demand the workers, along with garbage-filled trucks, would stage a demonstration at the KMC head office on M.A. Jinnah Road on Wednesday at noon.

He said that the workers had been demanding their arrears time and again throughout the year, but the civic agency management had been using delaying tactics. He said that if payment was not made immediately, the KMC workers would not work during Eidul Azha.
