Fireworks hazards
I WOULD like to share with Dawn’s readers some details of an accident I suffered owing to society’s boorish behaviour.
On Aug 14, I woke up about1:45am from the sound of fireworks. Being a working person, I was in deep sleep and jumped out of bed because of loud explosions. Missing a step, I hit the back of my head on the hard floor and suffered a concussion.
I have still not fully recovered, and have post-concussion symptoms. This has not only been traumatic for me but also disrupted my routine, thereby affecting my family responsibilities.
The doctors tell me I still have symptoms of a ‘moderate’ concussion and have advised a further one-week rest. I also had to bear the cost of a CT scan, follow-up visits to specialists and medication which, thankfully, I can afford but that for many in our society would be a severe blow to their monthly budget.
I pray people in our society genuinely look out for each other’s interests and welfare.
