New graveyards

TWO letters appeared in Dawn on Dec 18, 2016 and Jan 17 this year requesting the Sindh government to develop new graveyards for Karachi. Many of the existing cemeteries are already full and fresh graves are built on top of old ones.

The Karachi mayor has asked the provincial authorities to give space to the city for setting up more graveyards. The city officials are setting up a model graveyard in Surjani Town. However, they say this space is insufficient to meet the needs of Karachi which is now among the top 20 megapolises of the world.

The Sindh government should earmark more land for graveyards in this mega city.
