Two injured by shell fired from across Afghan border

LANDI KOTAL: Two schoolchildren were injured when one of the two mortar shells fired from across the Afghan border exploded near the hostel of the Army Public School inside an army camp here on Tuesday.

Officials said that the other shell landed in an empty compound and caused no damage. The attack, which the officials blamed was launched from the Afghan side, created panic among people present inside the camp.

After the attack security personnel rushed to the area and shifted students to a safe place. They closed the Army Public School. The officials said the two injured students were shifted to the Combined Military Hospital where they were treated for minor injuries.

Security around the army camp and other government installations was further tightened with security personnel patrolling the roads.

Also on Tuesday, at least five mortar shells, allegedly fired from the Afghan side, landed in a hilly terrain of Sheen Pokh area of Loe Shalman bordering Afghanistan.

Officials said that the explosion of shells caused no damage as there was no population nearby.

They said that a mortar shell hit a wood stall near Landi Kotal bazaar on Monday, but no one was injured in the attack.
