SIALKOT: A woman and her eight-year-old son drowned in the Upper Chenab Canal near Malkhaanwala village, Sambrial, on Monday.

Abbas Ali, a resident of Mundair Khurd, his wife Shakeela Bibi (37) and their two sons, Ehtsham (8) and Asad (3), were going to see their relatives in Aadmakey Cheema village when their motorcycle slipped due to speeding and plunged into the canal.

Abbas saved himself and his younger son, Asad, from drowning. But he could not save Shakeela and Ehtsham. The divers of Rescue 1122 fished out the bodies of the mother and the son from the canal.
