Azadi Train begins its journey

ISLAMABAD: Azadi Train began its journey from Margalla Railway Station to highlight country’s rich culture and different phases of the Pakistan Movement.

Minister of State for Information Marriyum Aurangzeb inaugurated the train journey.

Railways Chairperson Parveen Agha on the occasion appreciated the efforts of the Carriage Factory staff. More than 100 labourers worked day and night to finalise the models.

She said the train consisted of five galleries and six floats highlighting Pakistan Movement with the objective to educating people about the ideology and struggle of Pakistan under the leadership of Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah.

She said each of the six floats highlighted the cultural and regional characteristics of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Kashmir and Punjab.

Sharing the schedule of the train, Ms Agha said it will leave for Peshawar Cantt from Rawalpindi at 10:30am on Sunday. It will then return to Rawalpindi the next day and will leave for Lahore at 9:15am, she added.

After touching different cities including Lahore, Multan, Khanpur, Sukkur, Sibbi, Quetta and Hyderabad, the train will reach Karachi Cantt on Aug 25 at 6pm.
