ISLAMABAD: The Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) Islamabad will be planting 1,000 fruit trees on Aug 17 and 18 on the university campus as part of its celebrations for 70 years of independence as well as 50 years of the QAU’s establishment.

The university’s alumni association will be collaborating with the Mohammad Ali Saeed Foundation for the project,

According to a press statement issued on Friday, the varsity will plant a thousand trees each year.

According to QAU Alumni Association Secretary General Mohammad Murtaza Noor, the drive has been undertaken as a follow up to a memorandum of association signed between the association, the Mohammad Ali Saeed Foundation and the QAU administration on July 20, 2017 for the planting of a thousand fruit trees a year.

He stressed on the importance of mass plantation campaigns for reversing global warming and combating the impact of pollution, increasing diseases and desertification.

He said sustainable sites have been selected in consultation with the university’s horticulture cell.

He said a proper monitoring mechanism will also be developed in consultation with concerned stakeholders. Mr Noor said QAU alumni will continue to contribute to the development and beautification of their alma mater.
