Strike called on slain lawyers’ anniversary

QUETTA: The Balochistan High Court Bar Association has called for a country-wide strike of lawyers to observe the first death anniversary of the people who lost their lives in the August 8 blast, which left more than 70 lawyers dead and several others injured.

The association also announced that lawyers would boycott court proceedings in the province for three days

The association’s president, Shah Muhammad Jatoi, said this while speaking at a press conference on Sunday. He said that there would be no court proceedings from Aug 7 to Aug 9 in the high court and subordinate courts across the province. He added that on Aug 8, lawyers would observe a strike in the entire country to remember the deceased.

“Aug 8 will be observed as Shuhada Day in the country to express solidarity with the families of those who died and were injured in the Civil Hospital blast last year,” Mr Jatoi explained.

He said that a seminar would be arranged on Tuesday as well to pay tribute to the lawyers. He added that the Chief Justice of Pakistan, senior judges of the apex court and other high courts and leaders of Supreme Court Bar Association and Pakistan Bar Council would attend the seminar.
