Ex-constable of CTD shot dead

KOHAT: A former constable of the counter-terrorism department (CTD) was killed while another police official was injured along with an Afghan refugee in separate attacks on Thursday.

Unknown armed motorcyclists ambushed a van near Jawaki Banda on Hangu highway and killed former CTD constable Rayat Ali, a resident of Raisan, Hangu district.

The police said that Mr Ali was currently serving as driver of a civil judge. He was going to his home in his van when unknown armed men opened firing on him. They said that Mr Ali received a bullet in his head and after his death his van hit an electricity pole. They termed it a targeted murder.

His body was taken to the Women and Children Hospital where doctors conducted his autopsy. The cantonment police registered the case against unknown killers and have arrested several suspects from the site for investigation.

In another such incident, constable Shahid Iqbal of Junglekhel police station was injured when unidentified men opened firing at him from a nearby orchard. He was going to his home in Shahpur on his motorcycle.

An Afghan refugee Noor Ghani, who was also on motorcycle, was also injured in the firing. Both were taken to the KDA hospital where doctors referred them to Peshawar. The police rounded up a number of suspects from the scene for interrogation and have filed a case.
