Lakki govt to spend Rs15m on sports

LAKKI MARWAT: District nazim Ishfaq Ahmad has said that his government has set aside over Rs15 million for promotion of sports in the district.

He was speaking as chief guest at the prize distribution ceremony of a football tournament here on Wednesday.

Karvan Club defeated Mujahid Club in the final by 2-0. The nazim distributed trophies and cash prizes among the players of winner and runner-up teams. He said that the funds meant for sports sector were being spent on organising tournaments and provision of sports equipment to the players and local sports clubs.

SUICIDE VEST DEFUSED: Bomb disposal experts defused an explosive vest in Mammakhel locality near Naurang town here on Wednesday.

A police official said that a large contingent of law enforcers reached the place and cordoned off the area after receiving information about presence of a suspected bag near the bank of Kurram River. He said that the bag contained a suicide jacket and bomb disposal experts were called to defuse it.

He said that 10kg explosives and ball bearings were used in the jacket. He said that the suicide vest was dumped along the riverside with an apparent intention of using it for carrying out a subversive act.

The official said that the police had launched a search operation in the area.

VACCINATION: The district health department has vaccinated around 85,580 children below age five against measles during an eight-day campaign, said district health officer Dr Taus Khan while talking to this correspondent at his office on Wednesday.

The DHO said that the department had formed special teams to carry out anti-measles drive in 21 of the 33 vulnerable union councils of the district. He said that the department had also launched a campaign to sensitise the area people for extending cooperation to the health workers.
