Fake currency seized

KOHAT: Police seized a big quantity of counterfeit currency and arrested a resident of Tank district here on Wednesday.

A statement issued here said that following a tip-off police stopped a coaster coming from Peshawar. It said that during search a plastic bag containing Rs180,000 fake currency notes of different denominations was recovered from a man, identified as Hafiz Mohammad Ali, a resident of Gira Hayat area of Tank.

The statement claimed that Hayat admitted that he had bought the currency in Peshawar and wanted to disperse it in Kohat and other areas.

It said that a case had been registered against the suspect. He was presented in a local court which granted his physical remand to the police for investigations.

KILLED: A young man from Lakki Marwat was killed in Railway Colony here on Wednesday.

The police said that one Sharifullah was going home after offering prayers in a mosque when Mohammad Nawaz and his son Ali of Ustarzai village opened fire on him. He died instantly.

Mohibullah, father of the victim, told the Cantt police that his son had a brawl with the suspects a few days ago over some petty issue. The police filed a case and started search for the suspects.

Meanwhile, the police arrested 55 suspects in KDA Town here during the ongoing operation and seized two small machineguns, one rifle and five pistols.
