Six killed, two injured as rival groups clash

FAISALABAD: Six people were killed and two others injured when two rival groups traded fire at Gogera in the remit of Kur police on Wednesday.

According to police sources, Mirza Sahi and Mirza Nawaz groups had an old rivalry and men of both the parties had got registered cases against each other.

On Wednesday, armed men of Mirza Sahi group riding motorcycles opened fire on Mirza Nawaz group’s members who retaliated.

In the exchange of fire, three persons were killed on the spot, while four others sustained bullet injuries.

The injured were shifted to the district headquarters hospital by the Rescue 1122 staff where three of them succumbed to their wounds, while the condition of Ijaz and Majeed, 36, was said to be critical.

The deceased were identified as Nawaz, 40, Mubashir, 35, Wali Mohammad, 35, Sher Mohammad, Abu-Al-Hasan and Zameer Kharal, Rescue 1122 sources said.

The police claimed three of the suspects -- Ahsan, Allah Ditta and Khizar Hayyat -- had been arrested and raids were being conducted to nab others.
