Kaavan issue taken up with S. Lankan envoy

ISLAMABAD: A committee, comprising Mayor Sheikh Anser Aziz and senators Nuzhat Sadiq and Samina Abid, met the Sri Lankan high commissioner to discuss a proposed replacement for Kaavan, the lone elephant in Marghazar Zoo.

According to Mr Aziz, the committee asked the envoy to replace Kaavan with a baby elephant or a pair of elephants.

The Sri Lankan authorities were also asked to provide assistance to the Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) to carry out a medical examination of the elephant.

He told Dawn the commissioner told the meeting that Sri Lanka would provide a doctor and a mahout if the MCI bears travelling and other expenses.

“We agreed, and now the high commission will take up the matter with their government for the mahout and doctor’s visit,” Mr Aziz said.
