Dr Mirza’s close aide defects to PPP

BADIN: Mohammad Suleman Memon, a close aide to former Sindh home minister Dr Zulfikar Ali Mirza, announced joining the Pakistan Peoples Party on Friday.

Mr Memon, who was elected councillor from ward No. 2 of Nindo Shahar, said at a press conference at Jamali House in Tando Bago that he had decided to join PPP over growing demands of his voters and people, who, according to him, wanted development work in the town.

He said that since Dr Mirza did not allow them to join any party he could not become chairman of the town committee under the law and serve people.

Haji Sain Jamali, general secretary of PPP Badin chapter, who along with other party leaders welcomed Mr Memon to the party fold, said that another councillor of Dr Mirza group from Nindo Shahar, Mohammad Ishaq Mallah, would also join PPP soon and all three councillors of Dr Mirza’s group from Pangrio town would also defect to the ruling party.

He said that PPP would soon bring their chairmen both in Nindo Shahar and Pangrio and then in Badin municipality.

Dr Mirza’s group had swept local government elections in Nindo Shahar, Badin and Pangrio but could not bring its chairmen since they failed to join any party, which was mandatory under the relevant rules. “The chapter of Dr Mirza’s politics is drawing to a close now in Badin district,” said Mr Jamali.
