IT was good to see in the July 14 newspaper a half-page advertisement placed by the Punjab Revenue Authority thanking citizens for paying taxes worth Rs10.9 billion for fiscal year 2016-17 against tax collection of Rs7.3 billion for a similar period in the previous year.

What the common man requires is similar information about the utilisation of the collected taxes. A balance sheet should be published for the information of citizens who have paid taxes and want to know where and how their hard-earned money has been spent.
