Flash flood washes away bridge on highway

KHUZDAR: A flash flood caused by torrential rain in Khuzdar district on Saturday washed away a bridge on the Quetta-Karachi National Highway in the Bakhaloo area, suspending vehicular traffic on the road.

Hundreds of vehicles were stranded on both sides of the bridge. The district administration made vehicles going to Quetta from Karachi stop in the Lasbela area and those going to Karachi from Quetta in Khuzdar and Wadh.

According to Khuzdar Deputy Commissioner Suhailur Rehman Baloch, a car was seen being swept away by floodwaters but it was not clear whether the vehicle had any occupants. Several mud houses collapsed in the Ornach area.

He said that efforts were being made to restore traffic on the highway and stranded travellers were being provided food.
