Proposal to name D-12 roads after known personalities

ISLAMABAD: The city authorities are mulling naming a road in D-12 after poet Habib Jalib.

The revolutionary poet and left-wing activist was known for his fearless writing and his opposition of martial law.

There is also a proposal to name three other roads in the sector after poet Josh Malihabadi, writer and poet Dr Wazir Agha and Pakistan movement leader Raja Sahib of Mahmudabad.

An official of CDA’s planning wing said the summary of these names has been prepared, and it will be placed before the CDA board in the upcoming meeting for final approval.

The official said the name of Gama Pehalwan was also under consideration, but it is yet to be decided whether his name would be placed before the board or not.

“It is our policy to name roads after literary figures, martyrs and national heroes. This time around, we have decided to put the name of Habib Jalib and three others before the board for approval.

The board will then decide whether the roads should be named after the said figures or not,” said CDA spokesman Mazhar Hussain.
