Bad weather disrupts flight schedule

RAWALPINDI: Several international and domestic flights at the Benazir Bhutto International Airport (BBIA) were delayed or diverted due to bad weather conditions on Wednesday.

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) management advised passengers to contact the airline before leaving for the airport.

A PIA spokesperson said the airline was facilitating passengers during the delays and was trying to operate flights after the weather improved and the met office gave clearance. Flights for the northern areas were affected the most.

PIA’s flight from Islamabad to Karachi was delayed and that from Manchester to Islamabad was first delayed and then diverted to Lahore. Flights from Sialkot to Jeddah, Dammam to Lahore, Dubai to Lahore, Lahore to Rahim Yar Khan and Karachi to Sukkur were delayed due to bad weather.

The national carrier’s flights from Lahore to Karachi, Islamabad to Medina and Madina to Islamabad were also delayed.

Flights from Islamabad to Skardu, Skardu to Islamabad, Lahore to Islamabad, Lahore to Delhi, Delhi to Lahore, Islamabad to Gilgit and Gilgit to Islamabad were also disturbed.

PIA’s flights from Islamabad to Karachi and Lahore were cancelled as were the flights from Lahore and Karachi to Islamabad.

The flights of two private airlines from Islamabad to Karachi were also cancelled.
