Scrabble events shifted to Nottingham

KARACHI: The Mind Sports International World Scrabble Championship and World Junior Scrabble Championship scheduled in Doha, Qatar during August have been shifted to Nottingham, England.

The Pakistan Scrabble Association on Saturday said that the move was necessitated due to the rapidly changing political situation in that region.

The championship will now be held at Nottingham Trent University in Nottingham. The World Junior Scrabble Championship will be staged from Aug 19-21 followed by the World Scrabble Championship from Aug 22-27.

A 20-member Pakistan team will take part in the championship.

Pakistan is considered among the favourites to clinch the Junior championship. Pakistan has several players capable of winning the championship, most notably former world youth champion Moiz Baig, Abdullah Abbasi and the Hadi twins.

The final team will be announced after the qualifying rounds being held on July 7-9.
