‘Enjoy beach visit on Eid but avoid swimming’

KARACHI: Law enforcers have taken special measures at city beaches to prevent picnickers from going into the sea during the Eid holidays.

A ban on swimming has already been in place in the wake of past drowning tragedies.

The Sindh home department had imposed the ban under Section 144 of the criminal procedure code on swimming at the beaches for six months owing to the monsoon season and rough weather.

Clifton SP Dr Asad Malhi told Dawn that special security steps had been taken to prevent the people from swimming.

“Picnickers are welcome to enjoy themselves at Clifton and Seaview beaches but strict action would be taken against anyone try to go into the sea,” he said.

He said as per their security plan, 200 policemen would be deployed and around 20 police mobiles would patrol the beach areas. In addition to it, policemen on 25 motorbikes and 10 horses would also keep a vigilant eye on any eventuality.
