60 arrested in Buner for firing in air

BUNER: The police have arrested 60 persons for resorting to firing in the air during festivities erupted after Pakistan won the ICC Champions Trophy final against India, and recovered weapons from them.

In a press release issued here district police officer Mohammad Irshad Khan Yousafzai said he had directed all of the SDPOs and SHOs to arrest the people as the firing in the air had been banned in the district. He said a rifle, 10 pistols and hundreds of cartridges were also recovered from their procession of those arrested.

The DPO also warned the lenient police officers of strict disciplinary action. He said banners had been displayed at public places with clear message that firing in the air was strictly banned and the violators won’t escape punishment.

COMPENSATION SOUGHT: Daggar Tehsil Naib Nazim Khalid Khan has demanded of the district administration to release compensation cheque of Rs300,000 for the widow and four orphan children of Ziaur Rehman of village Batai who was electrocuted two days before Ramazan.

He said an application had been moved to the deputy commissioner for payment of compensation, but he had not yet released the amount, demanding that the affected family should be paid compensation before Eid.
