KHA inter-district hockey league begins tomorrow

KARACHI: Six teams of the metropolis are set to vie for honours in the Olympian Shahbaz Ahmed five-a-side floodlit KHA Inter-district hockey league being played at the KHA Sports Complex from June 15 to 25, organisers announced on Tuesday.

To be participated by teams of the district East, West, South, Central, Malir and Korangi, the event is part of the Olympic Day celebrations falling on June 23.

Two matches will be played daily starting at 11.30pm.

The KHA has announced mentors of all the six teams which includes Samiullah (East), Islahuddin (West), Hanif Khan (South), Hasan Sardar (Central), Tahir Zaman (Malir) and Sohail Abbas (Korangi).

Azam Khan has been named as tournament director, Abdul Azeem Khan tournament secretary and Mohsin Ali Khan umpires manager.

The winners will earn Rs100,000 while the runners-up receive Rs50,000. Besides best player of every match, best player of the tournament, top scorer of the tournament and best goal-keeper of the event will get handsome cash awards.
