25 shopkeepers held for overcharging

KOHAT: In a drive against overcharging and adulteration, 25 shopkeepers were sent behind bars during raids at old bus stand and chicken market here.

A statement issued here on Friday said that assistant commissioner, Kohat tehsil, Mehmood Ahmed along with the price control committee members checked the prices of edibles and chickens and ordered arrest of 25 shopkeepers. They were found overcharging the customers for yogurt, milk, marmalades and farm-hatched chickens.

Most of the sellers were found cheating buyers by giving farm-hatched cheap chickens and charging them for the domestic ones which had strong resemblance. There is a difference of about Rs300 in the prices of farm-hatched and domestic chickens.

The traders were sent to respective police stations and produced in the courts which released them after imposing fines on them.

VOLLEYBALL TOURNEY: The first volleyball tournament was held among youths of 18 tribes of Orakzai Agency after establishment of the government writ under the auspices of Sarhad Rural Support Programme.

A statement issued here on Friday said that the event was hosted by Orakzai Scouts, which was attended by students, teachers, community members and tribal elders.

A total of eight integrated teams participated in the tournament which represented all the 18 tribes of Orakzai Agency. The tournament was organised at FC recruitment centre near Kalaya tehsil headquarters.

Commandant Orakzai Scouts Col Mirza Sohail Yousuf, who graced the occasion as chief guest, said that militants had been wiped out from the tribal area with the sacrifices of people and forces.

He termed sports and other such activities must for social cohesion and peace building in Orakzai Agency.

Mr Wajidullah of SRSP, Kohat, said that the objective of the event was to strengthen social cohesion and peace building in tribal areas.
