Woman injured in Indian firing

MUZAFFARABAD: A woman was injured in Azad Jammu and Kashmir in unprovoked firing by Indian forces from across the Line of Control (LoC) on Wednesday, police said.

“The Indian troops resorted to firing in Nakyal sector without any provocation, targeting civilian population in close proximity of the dividing line, with small and medium-size arms,” Kotli SSP Chaudhry Zulqarnain Sarfraz told Dawn.

He said Zarina Begum, 26, was busy doing household chores in the courtyard of her house in Dharoti village when a bullet from across the LoC hit her at about 12:30pm.

“She has been hospitalised, but is out of danger,” the SSP said.

On May 26, Farzand Begum, 60, was killed when Indian troops opened fire in Naali village of AJK’s southernmost Bhimber district.
