Low funds for higher education slammed
KARACHI: The Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Association (Fapuasa) on Saturday termed the federal budget ‘disappointing’ and ‘hopeless’ and lashed out at the federal government for apportioning a meagre amount to higher education.
The funds allocated for education were sufficient not even to meet recurring expenditures of public sector universities, said Fapuasa-Pakistan representative Dr Shakeel Farooqi, who is a senior teacher at Karachi University.
This year Rs95.9 billion had been set aside for higher education out of which Rs35.7 billion was for development and Rs60.2 billion for recurrent expenses, he said.
