Indian firing kills woman in AJK

MUZAFFARABAD: A woman was killed in a village of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) on Friday in firing by Indian troops, an official said.

Farzand Begum, 60, was in the courtyard of her house in Naali village when she was hit by bullets, Bhimbar Deputy Commissioner Chaudhry Guftar Hussain said.

He said some cattle were also killed in the firing that began at about 3am.

Initial reports said a shell had landed on the victim’s house.

The Line of Control (LoC) has been witnessing civilian casualties for quite some time.

AJK’s Senior Minister Chaudhry Tariq Farooq condemned the Indian firing on civilian populations.

“Targeting unarmed men, women and children living along the LoC is a highly reprehensible act on the part of the Indian army, and warrants immediate intervention of the international community in general and the UN in particular,” he said in a statement.
