Office gutted in high-rise building fire

KARACHI: The office of a local company was gutted in a fire that broke out in a multistorey building on main Sharea Faisal near the Baloch Colony flyover on Wednesday, officials said.

They said that the blaze erupted in the office of Indus Labour Arcade on the sixth floor of the high-rise — Anam Estate Building — at around 6.44pm.

Four fire tenders and one snorkel were sent to the scene and the firefighters managed to control the blaze at around 9.40pm.

Around 25-30 people were rescued with the help of the snorkel. The building was protected from further damage, said the officials.

The cause of the fire and the losses could not be ascertained till late in the night.

A number of fires of varying intensity have broken out in the metropolis over the past few weeks affecting multistorey buildings as well as industrial areas.

Young man found shot dead

A young man was found shot dead in the Memon Goth area on Wednesday, according to police.

They added that the bullet-riddled body was recovered near Saiful Goth off Superhighway. Inv­estigators recovered two spent bullet casings from the scene of the crime, indicating that he was killed there.

With the help of a computerised national identity card found in his pocket, he victim was identified as Furqan Iqbal, a resident of Gulshan-i-Iqbal

The police were trying to locate his relatives.

Woman found dead in Manghopir

A partially decomposed body of a young woman was found in the Manghopir area on Wednesday.

The police said the corpse was recovered from a hilly place and it appeared that the body had been at the location for 10-12 days.

The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Doc­tors took samples for a DNA test to identify the victim.

Manghopir SHO Haji Sanaullah said that the injury marks found on the body suggested that she might have fallen from the hill and died.
