Zoya, Uzair clinch squash titles

LAHORE: While Zoya Khalid won the women’s senior title, Uzair Rasheed lifted the Under-19 crown as the All-Pakistan National Squash Championships ended here on Tuesday.

Zoya, who represents ZTBL, toppled top seed Samia Shaukat of Wapda in a 40-minute long final with the scores being 11-6, 11-13, 0-11, 11-8, 11-4.

Zoya dominated the final as Samia could only win the second game after see-saw proceedings. But in other three games Zoya displayed a supreme game.

In the under 19 boys final, Punjab’s Uzair Rasheed came from behind to defeat Abdul Qadir of SNGPL in 29 minutes. He won 7-11, 11-5, 11-5, 11-6.

In the under 19 girls’ final, Komal Khan of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa trounced Amna Fayyaz of PIA 11-6, 11-5, 12-10 to lift the trophy.

In the other two finals, Naveed Rehman of Sindh won the boys’ under-17 event by beating Mohammad Saqib Iqbal of PAF 11-5, 11-5, 12-14, 8-11, 11-9 and SNPGL’s Noor-Ul-Ain Ijaz tamed Laiba Ijaz of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 11-7, 7-11, 11-4, 11-9 to claim the girls’ under-15 crown.

Later chief guest Irfan Qaiser Shaikh, chairmen of Tevta, distributed the prizes at the presentation ceremony.
