Three killed, eight injured in windstorm

LAHORE: Three people were killed and eight injured in different parts of the city during a severe windstorm on Friday night.

Power supply to most of the localities was disrupted and many trees and billboards were uprooted.

Rescue 1122 said parapet of an under-construction commercial building in Misri Shah collapsed during the storm and left three labourers dead and five injured. They were sleeping on the rooftop.

In another incident, three people were injured when the roof of a house collapsed in Baghbanpura.

Rescue 1122 shifted all the injured to the Mayo Hospital.

The storm nevertheless provided relief to the people who had earlier braved a very hot day.

According to the Met department, the storm was more severe around the airport than in the downtown.

It said the speed of the storm was 113 kilometres per hour at the airport and 83.3km at its Jail Road observatory.

Many trees and billboards were uprooted, forcing commuters to take shelter to protect their lives.

Reports said 85 feeders tripped and many localities were without power till the filing of this report at midnight.
