Three IED blasts rock Peshawar locality

PESHAWAR: Three improvised explosive devices went off in the limits of Daudzai police station here early on Friday. However, there were no casualties reported.

The blasts took place in Ghani Rehman Qila area located along the Charsadda Road on the outskirts of the provincial capital.

A Duadzai police station official told this correspondent that the first blast took place outside the residence of Ijaz Ahmed at 3.30am, slightly damaging the house’s gate. The second blast targeting vehicle of Mohammad Younas, a cousin of Ijaz, took place at around 5.50am, the official said, adding Younas, who was coming to visit his relatives after hearing of the blast occurred on the Charsadda Road, escaped unhurt in the attack.

The third explosion occurred near a garbage dump in the same area, the official said, recalling that Ijaz’s father, Khaista Meer, was also killed in an IED explosion in 2012.

A senior police official said the reason behind the blasts was personal enmity, which also claimed the life of Khaista Meer.

He said one of the devices weighed around 200 grams, while the other about 600 grams. “All the three blasts took place in short distance of each other,” the official said. The CTD registered an FIR and started investigations.
