Three injured by kite string

LAHORE: At least three motorcyclists were injured by kite string on Saturday night in as many incidents in different parts of the city.

Youngsters resorted to kite flying and wheelie in some areas the city on Sunday despite a government ban on these “sports”. Any violation is punishable with imprisonment and fine, or both under the law.

In these incidents, Qadir, 31, was injured by string in Salamatpura, Ali Hasan, 2, in Dhobi Ghat and Ibrar, 28, near the Railway Station.

Though the police have displayed posters and flexes to warn people against indulging kite flying all over the city, violations were mostly witnessed in various thinly-populated areas in the night.

Kites were seen flying in Mughalpura’s Lal Pul locality, Harbanspura, Samanabad, the Walled City and Wasanpura on Saturday night and Sunday.

Meanwhile, groups of youngsters were witnessed resorting to wheelie on bikes on relatively empty roads, including both tracks of the Canal Road, Gulberg’s Main Boulevard and other “signal-free” roads, throwing caution to the wind.
