New information commission team may be inducted on Tuesday

LAHORE: Three new members of the Punjab Information Commission are expected to be notified on Tuesday, replacing the first team of the body that has completed its three-year term.

Two of the members, Chief Information Commissioner Mazhar Hussain Minhas, a retired judge; and Information Commissioner Ahmad Raza Tahir, a retired additional inspector general of police, had completed their terms on March 31. The third member, Information Commissioner Mukhtar Ahmad, last attended office on April 28 and his term is expiring today (Sunday).

Official sources in the information department said three new commissioners would most probably be notified on Tuesday. They might include two former civil servants and a representative of the civil society.

The first team of the information commission received 4,000 complaints out of which over 3,000 were disposed of. But the commission continued to be considered as an intruder by the bureaucracy whom it could not convince that sharing information was necessary for the betterment of people and the province.
