Medical store owner held for child’s death

KHAR: A medical store owner was arrested here on Thursday following complaints that he had administered an expired injection to a child who fell unconscious and later died on way to hospital.

Officials said that the medical store located in Sadiqabad town of Khar tehsil was also sealed during action by Levies personnel soon after the incident. They said that they had received information from the local people and complaints of the victim family that a person identified as Ihsnaul Haq, running a medical store in Sadiqabad, had administered an expired injection to a child, Sajad Khan, 5, which led to his death.

The officials said that a team of Levies force later arrested Ihsnaul Haq and took him to Khar prison for interrogation.

Meanwhile, the Bajaur Agency political agent has asked the authorities concerned to adopt a mechanism for ensuring hundred per cent presence of staff at the health units.

He was addressing a ceremony where Helping Hands donated medical equipment to the agency headquarters hospital, Khar, the other day. JI Fata chief Sardar Khan and representatives of Helping Hands were also present on the occasion. The political agent expressed his concern over the poor condition of health care centres. He said that entire public health institutions in the agency were in a bad shape owing to the absence of staff. He held the senior officials of health department responsible for the bad conditions at the hospitals.
