11 injured in police baton charge at wheat centres

NAROWAL: Police on Tuesday baton-charged wheat growers at three procurement centres, causing injuries to 11 of them.

Reports said a large number of farmers had gathered at wheat centres for getting gunny bags. A number of them were standing in queues since morning but could not get bardana (sacks).

They started protesting against what they alleged mismanagement in distribution of gunny bags. They chanted slogans against the wheat centres’ staff who called police.

The personnel managed dispersal of the crowd through baton charge as a result of which Muhammad Arshad, Nasir Jatt, Muhammad Aslam and Allah Rakha suffered injuries at Narowal centre, Khalid, Rafaqat Ali and Karamat at Badomalhi centre and four growers, including Allah Rakha and Fahad Gujjar, at Shakargarh.
